Total Time: Cook time is less than an hour but you'll need to start drying your tofu 8 hours before you start cooking it.
Yield: Enough for 2-4 people.
Ingredients:
2 blocks extra firm tofu
1 tablespoon oil (sesame, olive, chili, coconut, whatever you want)
1/2 cup cornstarch
Instructions:
Dry that tofu out! First, remove it from the packaging and excess liquids. If you have a tofu press, congratulations! If you don't, continue reading.
Wrap each tofu block in a kitchen towel or good amount of paper towels.
Place the wrapped block on a plate, top it with a cutting board, then place 4-5 books on top so that the tofu is being pressed by the weight of the books. You want enough weight for the tofu to be squeezed but not so much that it's being crushed.
After a few hours, replace the wet kitchen towels (or paper towels) with fresh & dry ones and repeat the pressing process until you are ready to prepare your meal.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unwrap your tofu and cut it how you'd like. I like mine in big cubes. I cut 9 cubes from each block.
Put your tofu cuts in a large bowl and add the oil of your choice. My favorite is sesame oil but anything will work! I used a hot chili oil this last time. Using your hands, carefully toss the tofu with the oil so that all the cuts are evenly coated.
Add the cornstarch to the bowl and gently toss, using your hands, so that all your cuts are evenly coated with cornstarch.
Place the tofu on your baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
Remove, rotate the cuts, and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Serve with rice, veggies, & a sauce of choice! Enjoy!
I've always been a fan of tofu but this recipe is a game changer for people that I've met that aren't fans. Plus, the baking method is way less messy than frying it in a bunch of oil. Drying your tofu out is by far the most important step. If you're going to make this, start it early enough so that you can properly get out all that moisture. Make a delicious sauce (or just go buy one) to cover your tofu in. Hope ya'll enjoy your tofu (and that I convinced at least a few people to give tofu another try)! Cheers!
