Yield: enough dog treats for 5-10 dogs? I don’t know. Make this batch and leave out enough for a few days and freeze the rest.
Total Time: about 1.5 hours.
Ingredients:
20 oz sweet potato - softened and peeled
7 cups brown rice flour
2 cups unsweetened applesauce
3 eggs
Instructions:
Soften your sweet potatoes enough that they are easily mashed to be smooth. I boil my sweet potatoes in a pot of water until they are very easily pierced with a fork. You can also microwave your potatoes. Peel and mashed the potatoes until as smooth as possible.
Whisk together the applesauce and eggs. Set aside.
Hand mix together the brown rice flour and sweet potatoes.
Add the applesauce and eggs so everything is together in one bowl. Mix together well.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line your baking trays with parchment paper
Generously flour your work surface with additional brown rice flour. Begin to flatten your treat dough so that you can cut it into shapes. You may need to use a lot of flour depending on how wet your dough is.
Chunk-by-chunk, cut the dough into the desired shapes. It doesn’t matter what type of shape or cut you choose, just make sure the individual biscuits are even in size so that they bake at an even speed.
Bake for about 20 minutes (it depends on how big your biscuits are) and then remove from the oven and let cool. Your biscuits should be nicely browned on the bottom but not burnt. Dogs don’t mind a crunch so it’s better to slightly over-bake than to under-bake these.
Store a few days worth of treats at room temperature in the container of your choosing and freeze the rest of the treats in a ziplock bag.
Cheers to your dog!
(this is my good boy, Jupiter)
I was trying to fall asleep last night and was thinking: 1.) I need to post a recipe on my blog and 2.) I just really love my dog. So I decided to share this recipe with y'all! My dog is a big fan of these treats and the handful of dogs that have also tried this recipe agree with him. Additionally, myself and my nephew have tried these treats and we don’t hate them. I cut my biscuits into little circles and then did an inner-circle design to make them look ~*fancy*~. You could also use cookie cutters and make them into bones or stars. If you’re feeling lazy then just do super random, careless cuts and called them ~*rustic*~. Your dog probably doesn’t care what shape they are. My dog likes them frozen and I like keeping them frozen so that they last longer. Hope you’ll give this easy recipe a try. Tell your dog I say HI!
